As Principal at Archipelago Consulting, Redford leads evaluations, writes commissioned papers, and initiates projects, such as a collaboration with Equilibrium Research to review the global status of private protected areas and make recommendations for their strengthening. This work culminated in an IUCN Technical Report Series publication and a set of workshops at the 2014 World Parks Congress.
Redford’s focus is on conservation practice and the biology of mammals, on which he’s helped author and edit nine books, numerous working papers, and over 100 scientific articles. After several years in academia, Redford directed the Parks in Peril program, ran the conservation science department in the Latin American Division, and helped develop guidelines for ecoregion-based conservation in the US and abroad for The Nature Conservancy. Redford served as the Director of the WCS Institute and Vice President for Conservation Strategies at the Wildlife Conservation Society.
