We offer four first-year positions in our fellowship program each year. All interested applicants will be considered for the Duke Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. Positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Specialties Matching Program. Interested applicants are invited to submit an application using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
The following documents should be submitted directly to the ERAS Fellowship Document Office:
- Personal statement describing your long-term career goals and plans for research in as much detail as possible.
- Three letters of recommendation (including a letter from the Program Director of the applicant’s Internal Medicine Residency Program).
- Official Medical School Transcript
- MSPE
- Official transcripts for all 3 USMLE Step (or equivalent) examinations and, if applicable, ECFMG Status Report
Fellows are selected solely based on qualifications and independent of race, gender, age, ethnicity, cultural heritage or nationality; religious or political beliefs; sexual orientation or gender identity; or socioeconomic, veteran or ability status. International Medical Graduates (IMG) should note that completion of an ACGME-accredited (or equivalent) Internal Medicine Residency Training Program and ABIM board-eligibility in Internal Medicine is a requirement of our program. Our program accepts applicants sponsored on J1 clinical visas from the ECFMG and H1B visas for select candidates.

We can’t wait to meet you!
We begin reviewing fellowship applications in ERAS beginning in mid-July. We are looking for applicants who meet our program’s mission and values, which requires a holistic review process. This includes attention to an applicant’s individual interests, academic performance, community impact, and unique life experiences. Upon holistic review of the completed application, selected applicants will be invited for an interview. All interviews will be conducted virtually during the upcoming recruitment season (September through October 2025). Interview details will be provided upon invitation; we will make every effort to support each applicant’s areas of interest and future goals for fellowship training.
