Q. What is HINARI?
A: The HINARI Program was set up in 2002 by the World Health Organization (WHO) together with major publishers and it enables developing countries to gain access to one of the world’s largest collections of biomedical and health literature. More than 8,000 information resources (in 30 different languages) are now available to health institutions in 105 countries, areas and territories benefiting many thousands of health workers and researchers, and in turn, contributing to improve world health.

Q: Who developed this training?
A: This training was co-developed by staff at the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) and the Duke University Medical Center Library (DUMCL). Duke University is located in Durham, North Carolina, USA. It was updated and moved to WordPress in 2017 by Jackson Koonts.
Q: How can my institution get access to HINARI?
A: Country eligibility is based on gross national income per capita, and eligible countries either fit under Band 1 – free access, or Band 2 – low-cost access. This page on the HINARI Program’s website contains detailed information about eligibility. Institutions, not individuals, can register with the HINARI Program. If you believe your institution has access and you are having trouble logging in, please see your local librarian for help.
