Padma Gulur, M.D.

As a Board certified specialist in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and Executive Vice Chair Duke Anesthesiology, I specialize in the care of patients with acute, chronic, and cancer-related pain. My clinical work is especially recognized for the care of patient with pain related to disorders of the spine and pain related to cancer. I specialize in innovative and advanced interventional options for the treatment of pain with the use of a bio-psychosocial multi-disciplinary approach focused on optimizing physical reconditioning and optimizing medications to customize a comprehensive care plan for the management of pain. In addition to direct teaching at the University, I speak at continuing medical education symposiums around the world on ways to improve the care of patients with painful disorders. The driving force behind my research is safety in healthcare delivery with pain management, especially in high risk populations. An additional focus is the development of innovative techniques to assess and manage pain. A significant component of my research involves high-risk populations and much of my recent work has been on understanding the specific risk factors that contribute to poor outcomes in these populations and developing safer care methods for the treatment of pain.
