Hi! I’m Jifei from China. I was born and grew up in North China, where I spent the most time of my first 18 years living in Beijing and Tianjin. After completing high school and the College Entrance Exam during Covid-19 in 2020, I went to Xiamen University and enjoyed my life on pursuing an LLB degree in Sociology. My research interests focus on Gender and Sexuality, particularly through a political perspective. I identify myself as one of the sociological students who committed to contributing their academic career to the emergent Chinese grassroots feminism and LGBTQ+ community. Because of my research interests, I went to London in Fall 2024 to study my first MA degree in Gender Studies at SOAS, University of London. Now, after several years of running, training, and researching, I’m excited to find Duke GLS where allows me to slow down my pace, reorganize my research, as well as re-explore myself. If I look familiar, that’s probably not your illusion! My first trip to the United States was in 2023, when I joined an exchange program at Temple University and spent half a year in Philadelphia. In my spare time, I like traveling, cooking, and taking photos. I also have a “quirky” hobby of visiting naval museums and historical battleships, as I’m fascinated by how people live on sea could build their own society.
