My name is Daniel Jones, and I’m excited to be joining the GLS program with a background in history and art. I grew up in Raleigh but spent the last ten years in Wilmington, where I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. After graduation, I worked in the education departments of several local history museums while conducting research on African American coastal life. For the past four years, I worked at a contemporary art museum, where I led a research project focused on the lives and legacy of the United States Colored Troops who fought a battle on the museum’s grounds. These narratives guided me in developing a range of public programs—including lectures, art exhibitions, performances, music, and film. Through GLS, I plan to study museum administration and documentary filmmaking, with a focus on African Diaspora studies. The rich history and art scene of the Triangle have brought me back home to continue my education—and, as a musician, to immerse myself in the local art scene as a performer. Music has always been my passion, and I’m looking forward to being part of such a vibrant creative community.
