My name is Marina and I am from São Paulo, the largest and busiest city in Brazil. I hold an undergraduate degree in Education from the University of São Paulo (USP), and for the past eight years I have been working as a preschool teacher, mainly teaching English as a second language to young children. My students mean the world to me and saying goodbye to them was one of the hardest parts of my move to Durham. After my undergraduate studies, I pursued a specialization in Positive Discipline, an educational philosophy based on respect and encouragement, which has consistently guided my teaching practice. I am particularly interested in the fields of Psychology, Child Development, and Public Policy. Now, I am truly excited to return to academia and pursue a Master’s degree. I am passionate about animals and serve as a coordinator for an NGO that rescues cats and dogs from the streets in Brazil. I am also looking forward to learning more about the animal rescue community in Durham. In my free time, I enjoy traveling and exploring new places and cultures. This is my first time living abroad, and moving to Durham marks a new chapter I am genuinely enthusiastic about.
