My name is Trevor Burns and I am originally from Kansas City but spent the majority of my childhood just outside of Boston, MA. Aside from academics during my youth, sports played a pivotal role in my development as a person. I had the privilege of traveling around the country and world (Italy & Australia) while connecting and competing against individuals with vastly different backgrounds than my own. “Growing up” in a multicultural environment through soccer was invaluable in shaping me as a person and ultimately fueled my passion and appreciation for diverse environments in all aspects of my life. My journey as student and athlete ultimately brought me to Georgetown University in the Fall of 2020 where I embarked on my undergraduate degree in the McDonough School of Business. Studying in an area such as Washington D.C. further sparked my interest in global issues and perspectives. While at Georgetown I was a member of the Men’s Soccer team and completed an internship with Neuberger Berman in the summer of 2023. After graduating in December 2023 with a BSBA in Finance I was hoping there would be an avenue to explore my educational curiosity just a little bit further… Thankfully, the stars aligned. Duke’s Graduate Liberal Studies program provided the perfect opportunity to diversify my educational background while utilizing my extra year of NCAA eligibility for the Duke Men’s Soccer program.

Coming to the Duke GLS program, I hope to diversify my educational background and build meaningful connections with faculty and classmates.
We’re going to make a GLS 2024 playlist on Spotify. Please recommend a song to include that speaks to how YOU feel as you embark on this new learning journey. It could be something that you’re listening to a lot now or a longtime favorite that captures the moment for you.
