Thanks for attending our kickoff meeting. I loved seeing so many of you at once, and I’m excited to build an intellectual community with you. Here’s a recap:
-
Settled on the name Global Elections Lab.
-
Voted to meet once every two weeks, alternating which time zone takes the morning shift. This will help us stay connected, keep updated on each other’s progress, and perhaps motivate one another. If you feel like you haven’t made any progress, don’t ghost us; come anyway and get remotivated. We discussed the possibility of splitting lab meetings by time zone, but decided against it in the name of community-building. Please complete the two Doodles.
-
Agreed to build a website. [You’re currently reading a work in progress.] We discussed content, including:
-
an about/mission page;
-
a lab logo, which @Dalia Guerrero Flores graciously volunteered to design;
-
member photos and bios (if you haven’t already, please submit yours);
-
a “where we work” page, with a world map and various projects mapped out;
-
attractive data visualizations built from our original datasets;
-
an events page, advertising upcoming meetings and outside (Zoom) talks by invited guests; and
-
(eventually) outputs, including datasets, papers, etc.
-
-
Introduced ourselves and discussed various ongoing projects. Despite spending 30 minutes on this, we couldn’t cover everyone’s election-related work (mine included). The “where we work” page will prove helpful here, as we can post helpful summaries of where efforts are underway.
