Service Learning

Experience 1:  Project Tadpole

Dates: Fall 2019 – Spring 2022

Summary:  Project Tadpole is a service engineering organization at Duke that strives to increase the accessibility of adaptive toys for children with disabilities. I worked to repair toys for the Durham Public Schools and plan community workshops to teach educators and families in Durham basic toy modification techniques. Through this experience, I have learned the importance of engineering with accessibility and inclusion. I hope to use my experience with Project Tadpole to research with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusion.

Experience 2: Events Director @ Duke Science Olympiad

Dates: Fall 2019 – Spring 2021

Summary:  Duke Science Olympiad is a student-run organization at Duke that organizes a Science Olympiad invitational tournament for high school students nationwide with the goal of sparking interest in STEM for students who might otherwise lack the opportunity. As the Events Director for the 2020-2021 season, I recruited and managed 60 event supervisors to create 25 tournament programs, tests, and events. I have also volunteered at 10 K-12 science competitions and directly mentored students in North Carolina and Nevada since 2016.
