GALS is a summer science program based out of Durham, NC, that offers high school girls the chance to backpack through North Carolina’s Pisgah National Forest.  During this two week experience, girls will learn ecology, earth science, and environmental chemistry through exploring their surroundings with scientists from Duke University.  This mentally, physically, and academically challenging trip rewards its participants with a deep understanding of their natural surroundings and their own leadership strengths. It is offered free of charge to motivated girls.

GALS strives to cultivate a passion for environmental science, develop leadership abilities, enhance critical thinking skills, and promote teamwork in each participant. This program provides girls with the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in science and experiential education while immersed in a supportive community of peers.
