How is it being LGBTQ at Duke?
It’s great! FuquaPride is a close-knit group with plenty of formal and social events to stay engaged. Some past events we’ve done include a wine night, PridesGiving, the annual Fuqua Drag Ball, and participating in the annual Durham Pride Parade. We’ve found the overall student body and administration to be very inclusive of LGBTQ students. You can learn more by visiting Duke University’s Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity .
HOW IS IT BEING LGBTQ IN DURHAM?
The Research Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) is a progressive metro area with a strong and active LGBTQ community. As a result, you will find Durham to be a place that, while retaining its southern charm, also embraces the LGBTQ community. You can learn more about the LGBTQ community in Durham by visiting the LGBTQ Center of Durham and Discover Durham.
How Can I connect With FuquaPride?
We encourage you to reach out to any member of FuquaPride’s leadership – start by visiting our leadership page. Send any of us an email! We are happy to chat with you about our experience, connect you to others who align with your career interests, and answer any other questions on your mind.
Are there LGBTQ-specific admissions events?
Yes! In fact, Fuqua was the first business school to launch an admissions weekend specifically for LGBTQ candidates. The weekend is typically held in the Fall term and is a great way to experience the “Team Fuqua” spirit and learn about life as a Duke MBA student. Visit this admissions page, which has details on timing and how to apply for the weekend.
How "OUT" Can I be at Fuqua?
It’s completely up to you. Some of us are comfortable being completely out, others are out only to FuquaPride members, and some are not ready to be out yet. You’re in the driver’s seat when it comes to who you share your identity with.
CAN I MEET YOU AT ROMBA?
Yes! We’d love to meet you at the annual Reaching Out MBA (ROMBA) conference. Members of Fuqua’s Career Services Team and many of our current MBA students attend each conference. Reach out to admissions or learn more about ROMBA here.
I checked "LGBTQ" on my application, is that Information public to FUQUA?
No. That information found on your application is confidential and is managed by Admissions.
