Research Project: My research project focuses on understanding the mechanisms involved in Cu homeostasis in C. albicans. The objective for this project is to explore the localization and metalation status of CuZnSod1 under Cu-deficient conditions in Candida albicans. These experiments will investigate the hypothesis that in C. albicans under Cu-deficient conditions, a Zn-only Sod1 will localize to the nucleus to participate in the activation of Mac1. At a future time, the project will also aim to characterize the interactions of transcription factor Mac1 with CuZnSod1 under various stress inducing conditions. My project relies on bacterial transformations, overexpression and purification of protein, reconstruction and analysis of metalation states, and the use of enzymatic assays to monitor Activity. Personal Bio: Spending time with people, playing sports, watching films, having meaningful conversations, and reading for leisure are all enjoyable passtimes. |
