  1. When reading about this part of me is surprised people believe such things, however, the spread and popularity of this type of information shows the need in educating individuals about other cultures and views, and making sure people understand these are lies.

  2. This was a great example, especially due to the fact that the photo was not even taken in the site where the article claimed it took place. I found it interesting how a narrative can entirely shape how a viewer perceives a photo.

  3. In reading the responses from my group members, it seems as though the issue of fake news transcends across countries and cultures. Specifically, my group members pointed out that fake news depicting immigrants as detriments to society is not bound by language. One of the statements from the workshop that I found most interesting was the idea of the basic breakdown of fake news articles resembling each other. My group pointed out specific similarities between fake news articles coming from all over. I find it very interesting that despite the matching makeup of the articles, it can still be very difficult for people to spot fake news. However, I do agree that fake news can sometimes be very convincing, and it is safe to assume that most people are not reading the news from other countries, especially if they do not know the language. If one cannot speak, understand, or read the fake news that has been found, he or she would likely have no idea what the article was saying, much less if it was truthful or not. Workshops like these are very important, especially in today’s political climate. Without being educated on ways to spot fake news, those who do recognize the news to be fake will likely spread it, only further perpetuating the problem and the spread of fake news.
