Sousse : Deux homos portent plainte pour agression policière

“Two homos file complaint for police assault”

Two homosexuals accused police officers in Sousse of having assaulted and insulted them. They denounce a homophobic assault.

This happened on the evening of Wednesday, July 12 2017, near the Corniche. The victims, wishing to remain anonymous, told Kapitalis that a complaint will be made against the police, especially since they believe they have done nothing to deserve to be abused.

Explicit meaning: Two men were beaten up on the street up by police because they were homosexuals.

Audience: The public and their perception of homosexuals.

Circulation: I could not find any other articles online about this incident. It only appeared on this website. There is no clearly identified author, only “Y.N.” initials on the bottom.

Communicative strategy: There are images of scratches and bruises on men. The article also seems to exaggerate the situation. This is done in order to evoke sympathy and understanding towards homosexuals.

Context: The reader must know the attitude towards homosexuals and how they are perceived by the public in Tunisia. They should also know a little about Tunisian police and about their reputation in the city/country.

This is Fake News because 1) there are no other articles about this, 2) there is no defined author, 3) the situation seems exaggerated and made up to evoke sympathy, 4) the website does not seem very credible, 5) the victims did not disclose their names, 6) source of images is unknown and questionable.
