Cambridge, MA – Telis Bioscience – Scientist/Senior Scientist, Assay Development

Who are we?

We are a growing team of scientists and engineers working to radically accelerate drug development. Our automated antibody design engine is built to safely and effectively drug any novel target in hours instead of months or years. We are looking for teammates who are exceptional at what they do and ready to work hard with a close-knit team to help patients today and prepare for global health threats of the future.

What is this job?

You will be responsible for developing and optimizing biophysical, biochemical, and cell-based assays to analyze our engineered proteins. You will plan, budget, implement, and validate novel assays and lead downstream data collection, analysis, and interpretation. The assays you develop will form a core part of our engineering process and will be integrated into our automated, high-throughput platform. This position is ideal for someone with extensive experience in assay development who is ready to take the speed, throughput, and reliability of antibody characterization to a whole new level. Even if you don’t check every box but are excited about our mission, please apply!

Who are you?

You have a Ph.D. or equivalent accomplishments in biochemistry, biology, biophysics, or a related field (2+ years of industry experience is preferred)

You have a strong track record of designing, implementing, and optimizing assays for protein or peptide characterization (experience with both arrayed and pooled assay formats is preferred)

You are comfortable with mammalian cell-culture and have run cell-based assays using a variety of readouts (e.g. luminescence and fluorescence-based reporters, FRET/BRET, AlphaScreen or AlphaLISA, label-free assays)

You are familiar with common biophysical methods for screening/analyzing protein therapeutics (e.g. SPR, BLI, MST, DSF, DLS, CIC)

You have experience with programmatic processing, analysis, and interpretation of assay data (fluency in Python is preferred)

You are trustworthy, passionate, kind, and extremely hardworking

What will you do?

Plan, develop, and optimize novel, high-throughput assays for protein characterization

Design and execute experiments to validate new assays and overcome limitations of existing approaches

Work closely with the Automation team to integrate new assays into our automation platform

Investigate new techniques to improve the efficiency, throughput, and reliability of our protein characterization workflows

Meticulously execute experiments, document laboratory procedures, and analyze, present, and interpret data

We offer competitive salaries, opportunities for rapid advancement, generous stock option packages, comprehensive health/dental/vision coverage, and unlimited paid time off. We come from diverse backgrounds, paths, and lifestyles and commit to equal opportunities for all.

Remote – E4 Carolinas – Internship

E4 Carolinas Internship

About the project:

In order to assess the adequacy of EV charging infrastructure along hurricane evacuation routes, we will be creating a simplified traffic flow model (of a single route) that we can use to assess the performance of EV charging capacity under varying scenarios. Scenarios will vary by type of evacuation (tiered vs. unplanned), starting state-of-charge of EVs, percent of vehicles that are EVs, spatial distribution of vehicles, and charging capacity at each node. Given our research needs, we will likely use some form of agent-based model, although we have discussed the possibility of other model types as well.

About the position:

The position would entail contributing to model design and model parameterization through research, coding, critical feedback, and brainstorming. You would not be expected to be an expert in all of the fields listed below, but having a reasonable grasp on mathematical modeling would likely be important.

Recommended knowledge:

  • systems modeling (agent based models, flow models, mathematical programming/optimization, stochastic simulation, etc.)
  • transportation/traffic parameterization (vehicle flow rates, speed-density relationships, # of lanes, etc.)
  • electric vehicle and infrastructure parameterization (EV charger power ratings, vehicle efficiency, battery capacity, etc.)
  • implementing models using code (no need to be proficient in all of these): Excel + VBA, Python, R, JavaScript
    • we will probably set up the architecture in Excel so that it is easier for non-programmers to follow, but we can run the model any number of ways

Thinking this could be an opportunity for that student who may have a commitment that fell through- unfortunate situation that I understand has been more prevalent in the current climate. I am hoping to get some projects started as soon as possible. The internship can end when the student preps for onset of Fall Semester or could continue with fewer hours through Fall Semester.
