Launch Factory Overview: Launch Factory is a startup studio that provides a pathway to entrepreneurship for those with the ability and passion to build a successful company.We source and develop concepts for our future businesses, then recruit talented entrepreneurs to launch and grow these new startups. We believe our rigorous due diligence, founder selection, and incubation process can address many common causes of startup failure and increase the success rate of our companies.

The Innovation Team

The successful candidate will join our innovation team. This group drives the idea generation and acquisition for potential ventures, the preliminary and secondary market research, and all the due diligence to qualify and develop great start-ups.

Responsibilities & Duties

•Execute primary and secondary research to evaluate target markets and start-up opportunities.

•Assist with evaluation and financial forecasting for new business opportunities to assess their feasibility

•Support all internal ideation activities (e.g.: facilitate brainstorming session, evaluate ideas for further refinement, etc…)

•Support outreach activities to establish reliable idea sources.Qualifications and ExperienceWe are looking for someone with an outstanding track record, with excellent attention to details and an owner mindset.

You should have:

•A degree in any related field (business, management, engineering, mathematics, product design). We will also consider students that are graduating in 2021.

•Experience in evaluating new ideas and business planning.

•Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to communicate with senior stakeholders

•Proficiency in Excel; R or Python is a plus.

•Familiarity with design-thinking frameworks is a plus

This summer, Black Fire Innovation is offering the following internships:

Skills needed: Python, UX, blockchain, game design

  • Build a lottery based blockchain game with an interface design to be a digital, online pinball or pachinko machine. Game will be presented to commercial gaming companies and online gaming businesses for a social and real money wagering game license.

Skills needed: tech Innovation, AR, VR, Stats, Business planning, Writing and communication skills, tech background in networking is helpful, renewable energy tech and environmental science. nonetheless, these are not prerequisites.

  • EaglePoint Master Plan. Eagle Point is a Southern Utah based, operational, mountain resort covering more than 4600 protected acres of wildlife and nature. Considered one of the most beautiful locations in the United States it has maintained a pristine environmental habitat. Moreover, EaglePoint if the most central location to the largest number and size of national parks in the U.S. Eagle Point wants to establish eco-friendly, tech infused mindful and balanced living resort experience predicated on forward thinking and progressive notions of nature, harmony, meant health and wellness. A year-round resort that has the opportunity to redefine the Fall-Winter-Spring-Summer getaway by emptying the most advanced technologies to support deepest human values. For example, Augmented reality nature hikes, snowboard based competitions and automated delivery of services via drones are some of the concepts presently underway. Other examples include University nature sanctuaries on the private lands and mindfulness programming including mountain Yoga and meditation. The master plan will explore the complete phased approach to achieve a 21st century, tech infused showcase balancing nature humans and recreational activities.The final plan and presentation to the developers will include the student team and submitted for review by other destination developers after IP protection has been processed.

Skills needed: Data analytics, conservationism, political science, writing, IoT, Drones, engineering design, any skills are applicable and any educational background will be seriously considered.

  • Save the Elephants of Botswana. Black Fire Venture is working with Elephants without Borders in Botswana to design a program to better protect a herd of 15,000 that are endangered. We are seeking a plan that uses advanced technology and Data Science to develop a methodology that overcomes the traditional constraints for protecting endeared species. The plan is to be presented to the foundation and submitted for publication in journals. Key to this project is a sustainable funding model which has not been attempted but aligned to new values of trust brokering and social venture capital.

Skills needed: Business, Software design, UX, customer journey, financial modeling presentation skills, writing skills, data science and analytics.

  • The future business model, supporting technology platform and financial model for casino gaming companies as we result of the challenges presented by technology disruption rapidly changing consumer behavior , competition and COVID-19. The business model will be presented to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, CEOs of various established casino gaming companies, casino gaming manufacturers, Fortune 100 technology companies, and eSports video game publishers. The findings will be submitted for publication in a summary article with HBR and various journals.

 

Remote Internships

We are a team of Brown students working to place qualified, ambitious students in internship positions at new, forward-thinking start-ups. Startups can offer positions in marketing, research, strategy, software engineering, design, etc. For many students, their original summer plans may not be transpiring as planned, and we’d like them to know that we are here to support them in finding summer internships. At the same time, many startups are currently navigating unprecedented times and we want to help them find great interns to join their team. SF or NYC – Fin Venture Capital – Sr Associate and Associate

Role Description: We are seeking to hire new teams member who are passionate about finding, researching, and supporting companies that are transforming the Financial Services industry. Fin VC has a global remit and is expanding its SF team. The role will report into Investment Partner, Peter Ackerson.

Sourcing:

  • Conducting market analysis and opportunity identification via academic research, customer interviews, conferences, incubator and University demo days, and peers (Angels/VCs).
  • Proactively developing relationships with identified early stage (Seed, Series A, and B) companies that align to our investment theses and scope
  • Help manage the investment pipeline process
  • Creating content, events, and more to build the firm’s brand in the global market Diligence and Investment Execution:
  • Support the team’s initial screening and subsequent deep due diligence of potential investments
  • Support development of diligence materials and Investment Memo/Scorecard to assess market sizing, talent assessment, product-market fit, key metrics/financials, capital structure, valuation modeling andexit scenarios, risks, etc.
  • Liaise with team members to support diligence checks (product, tech, and finance) and finalizeinvestment execution (legal and finance)Portfolio Company Operating Support:
  • Support portfolio companies around product strategy, talent sourcing, business development, regional market and global expansion and support for future financing
  • Help gather and manage portfolio performance, metrics, and financials on a Quarterly basis
  • Support capital raising for the firm and portfolio company follow-on round growth financings

  • Desired Skills and Experience:

    • Excitement to join an emerging manager and help build a specialist VC focused on FinTech globally
    • Deep network and experiencing in working across the US market
    • Passion for the intersection of Financial Services and technology, along with RETech, InsureTech, andadjacent spaces
    • 2-4 years (Associate), 3-5 years (Sr. Associate) of previous work experience, ideally with a backgroundin venture capital, private equity, or investment banking with exposure to Financial Services / FinTech

    B.A. or B.S. in related fields, technical experience a strong plus. MBA preferred for Sr. Associate level.

    • Strong grasp of technology trends and business models, ideally in FinTech
    • Small working team experience, strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and an exceptional workethic and discipline
    • Preference and consideration given to foreign language capabilities, particularly in Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic
    • SF or NYC based
