Where should I live?

Please wait until after you have secured your visa to secure housing and flights to the US. Only after you have secured your visa is your exchange officially confirmed. Therefore, the sooner you complete the visa application, the sooner you may secure housing and flights.

While we do not have on-campus housing at Fuqua, below are several great resources to begin your housing search:

  • Fuqua MBA Housing Guide 2023: To help students find and compare housing options, Fuqua has partnered with VeryApt to develop this document. This guide provides details on the most popular apartments for Fuqua students, reviews on landlords and rental companies, data on average rental prices, and information on the best locations for families and pets. (Note: Duke and Fuqua do not specifically endorse any apartment complex or housing arrangement. VeryApt is a 3rd party company that assists in the process of searching for an apartment. They conducted polling of current Fuqua MBA students on their housing arrangements to create this guide.
  •  Duke’s Off Campus Housing Website (Great information about housing close to campus with a few options for application based university graduate housing. Also, includes great information about transportation, budget, safety, and amenities/grocery stores in the area)
  • Student’s Blog about housing options near Fuqua
  • Previous Exchange Student Housing Feedback This document shares housing options from previous exchange students.
  • Shared Rental Document for Fuqua students and exchange (A document where Fuqua students can share housing availability with exchange students.)  This document will have current Fuqua students who will be away for the Spring 1 term and need their apartments or rooms to be rented.  Fuqua students going abroad will be given access to this form in mid-November.
    • Keep checking this document as Fuqua students may post throughout December.
  • FuquaList (A Facebook group where Fuqua students post housing as well as other items for lease or sale. Password: exchange 2023)

National Rental search engines: (you can narrow the search to focus on specific housing types, location, and even furnished or unfurnished)

Please be cautious of scams when searching for housing options on Facebook or other social media through groups that do not ask for university or Fuqua affiliation in order to join.

An additional option to consider is staying in an extended stay hotel (scroll down to the housing section). Several of the exchange students have been very satisfied with this option. There are a couple in the area and more information can be found on the Duke International Student Center’s website.

You may also want to consider The Student Exchange House near Duke. This house is not affiliated with Duke (but rather run by an individual landlord) and is a five bedroom house.

It is oftentimes easier to live closer to the Duke University campus when it comes to transportation options.  Living in downtown Durham can be challenging especially when it comes to transportation to campus.

Please note: The International Programs Office nor The Fuqua School of Business have any affiliation with the above housing options.
