Sample abstract for “Digest: Imperfect convergence in butterfly wing patterns” (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/evo.13215/full)
Does local phenotypic convergence to toxic species provide a mimetic fitness benefit to a non-toxic relative? Finkbeiner et al (2017) found that birds attacked models of non-toxic Adelpha serpa more often than models of toxic A. iphiclus butterflies, suggesting the locally convergent wing patterns do not provide a mimetic benefit.
