Restor3d: Custom Engineering Intern

Status: Completed
Start and End Date: (Summer 2021)
Description:
Restor3d is a medical implant company that designs custom 3D printed biomaterials for surgeons to reconstruct and repair the human body. I worked as a custom engineering intern where I performed segmentation on CT scans and design 3D-printed implants for patients. In this internship, I also had the opportunity to discuss surgical cases with orthopedic surgeons and investigate how biomaterials may be used to better promote bone growth.
GC Focus Connection:
The intern position allows me to gain entrepreneurship experience and experience the full process of designing a medical implant. The opportunity will help connect my interest in biomaterial research into industrial application.

Engineering 101/102: Engineering Design and Communication/ Design to Deliver

Status: Completed
Start and End Date: (Fall 2019 – Spring 2021)
Description:
The introduction to engineering course provided me hands-on experience with the design process. I worked with two different engineering teams on two separate projects, 1) a single-handed administered eyedrop for an ophthalmologist at UCLA, and 2) a pneumatic tube opener for the Duke Hospital Clinical Lab. My role within the project included, conversing with clients, designing prototypes, and realizing prototypes with 3D printed CAD designs and building electronics.
GC Focus Connection:
These courses built my fundamentals and engineering design and entrepreneurship. I learned the tools to create a product and to communicate with our clients.
