Leykashree NagendrenBorn and raised in Penang, Malaysia, Leyka moved to pursue her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she graduated with an Honors Degree in Neuroscience in 2020. At UW-Madison, she assessed the effects of TrkB agonist therapy for neonatal HIE in vivo in the Cengiz Lab and computationally elucidated the organization of abstract and concrete concepts in the human semantic system in the Knowledge and Concepts Lab. She then joined the Eroglu Lab in 2020 as a research technician, where she investigates basic epigenetics and cellular mechanisms of how astrocytes mature and modulate synaptogenesis under the mentorship of senior postdoctoral fellows Dr. Kristina Sakers and Dr. Dolores Irala. Outside the lab, Leyka volunteers at the nexus between health and education to address inequities through tutoring and advocacy. Leyka is an aficionado of teas, cute cafes, and Taekwondo. She is currently applying to medical schools to pursue physician-scientist training.
