July EMM Follow-up: Planisphere Data Source Policies

By: John Straffin

Planisphere has a new feature called “Data Source Policies” (or “DSPs”) that allows Duke IT to individually identify devices to participate in non-default policy groups (i.e. test groups). There are currently DSPs for testing OS and App patches in Duke ConfigMgr (active), Duke University BigFix (in development), and Duke Jamf Pro (in development). There are also DSPs to allow computers to run pre-release and the latest released version of CrowdStrike and to receive the latest CrowdStrike security content (all in development).

A device can be added to any applicable Data Source Policy by editing the device in Planisphere and (under the device’s User information) selecting one or more policies. Devices can be removed from a policy the same way by simply deselecting a selected policy. If a desired policy is not displayed, it means that the device does not have a recent Data Source Record from the appropriate Data Source.

More details on Data Source Policies can be found under Planisphere Help. IT Groups using any of the Data Sources with DSPs are strongly encouraged to assist with testing by identifying a portion of their supported computer to participate. Announcements and discussion regarding specific testing (patch deployments, new software versions, etc.) will happen in the Early Adopters Test Group Teams channels.
