Endpoint Management Meeting – August 19, 2021

By: John Straffin

The recording of the August 19 Endpoint Management Meeting is now available.

Items of note:

  • EPM System upgrades:
    • ConfigMgr to 2103
    • Jamf Pro to 10.31.1
    • BigFix to 10.0.4
Click on any of the version numbers above to see the release notes for that version.
  • The Windows 11 is currently available via the Windows Insider program and is rumored to be released around the same time as Windows 10 21H2, but won’t likely be available to enterprise customers as a download until early 2022. Microsoft “will continue to support Windows 10 through October 14, 2025.” They “will be introducing Window 10, version 21H2 in the second half of this year along with a Windows 10 Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) edition.”
  • A large number of CrowdStrike agents for macOS somehow became unlicensed. While commands were issued via EPM to fix this, affected computers will need a restart for the fix to become effective. In looking into this, however, it was discovered that many Duke macOS and Windows computers are not being restarted on a regular basis. Look for scripts and reports to address this issue in coming weeks.
  • macOS 10.14 and Windows 10 20H2 are both expected to reach end-of-life and fall out of support in December 2021. University policy requires computers to run supported operating systems, so IT groups need to get on top of this now to prevent computers from being quarantined four months from now.
