UNC Water & Health Conference 2016

The annual Water and Health Conference hosted by The Water Institute at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill discusses drinking water supply, sanitation, hygiene and water resources, with a focus on public health. The main session I attended examined current research on ceramic pot filters and brought together a variety of people involved with ceramic filter manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and technical research to discuss the next steps forward for this specific type of filtration.

This conference was highly informative and provided networking opportunities relating to my research with ceramic water filters in Dr. Deshusses’s lab. The largest takeaways from the conference included a unified theory on ceramic water filter literature, and input from sales and marketing representatives about technical features that can become a hindrance when distributing and implementing filters in the field.
