CEE 315: Engineering Sustainable Design in the Global Community

This course allowed me to apply my engineering skills to projects focused on the Global South. I worked on a team of students to design a health clinic for a rural community in western Uganda. In this course, we also learned about the sustainability of food and water systems, transportation, and energy. Our class had the chance to debate important issues that are frequently at the front of international news, such as immigration and climate change. This course forced me to reflect on my own consumption of resources and how this impacts others. Service learning was an overarching theme of this course because all assignments and activities were completed with the benefit of the global community at the front of mind.
