Environmental Justice Workshop

June 28 – 30, 2013 in Durham, North Carolina

We are excited to announce the second annual Environmental Justice Workshop, hosted by the Research Translation Core of Duke University’s Superfund Research Center, in conjunction with the Nicholas School of the Environment and Johnson C. Smith University.

We will convene on Duke University’s campus from Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30, 2013. During this workshop, we will explore different facets of environmental justice, exposure to toxic chemicals, and sustainability. We’ll be joined by faculty and students from Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte-Mecklenburg K-12 teachers, and Charlotte-area community members, some new this year and some bringing back their experience from last year’s workshop. Over the three days, we’ll meet with scientists, visit a community that has fought against environmental injustice for over 30 years, consider how environmental justice and sustainability are connected, and explore how to teach others about these topics.

We will continue to update this website as the 2013 EJ Workshop approaches, so please stay tuned!
