Registration requirements and deadlines vary by state. The U.S. Vote Foundation has compiled that information here.

Many students report that TurboVote is their preferred method of registering to vote. TurboVote makes voting easy through a simultaneous online voter registration and ballot request process that takes minutes to complete. Since Duke students come from across the country, this tool helps students manage voter registration deadlines and provides election reminders for all 50 states.

Note: Completing the online portion of TurboVote does not complete your registration. You must also complete the necessary steps to mail in the form created via TurboVote.

How do I vote out of state?

After registering, you must request an absentee ballot by the deadline for your state. Click your state on this page to request an absentee ballot.

You are encouraged to apply as early as possible to make sure you receive your ballot on time.

Most states recommend submitting your absentee ballot request at least one month prior to the election. Review your state’s absentee ballot deadlines here.
