The Early Start Research Immersion Program runs from mid-June to mid-August in the summer before newly admitted Sloan Scholars matriculate, ending just before new student orientation. Scholars receive a monthly stipend of $2,500 for the two months of Early Start.
Early Start programming is designed to achieve two major objectives:
- Give Scholars an early immersion in their departments and labs
- Introduce Scholars to resources and opportunities that speak directly to what it means to be a graduate student in their department and at Duke
Ask Your Undergraduate Mentor to Join Us
To help facilitate greater connections between Duke and institutions that produce promising URM undergraduates in STEM, we also want to invite each Scholar’s undergraduate faculty mentor to participate in some portion of Early Start. Duke will provide up to $500 per undergraduate mentor to help cover travel costs.
