This course approaches more than six hundred years history of the Ottoman Empire from a world historical perspective. It will situate the Ottoman imperial experience in relation to Muslim, Mongolian and Byzantine traditions. Moreover, it will discuss the early modern and modern era transformation of the Ottoman Empire, and its legacy for contemporary Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
