Supporting Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) Wellness in the Southern US and the Global South

Education

Through courses, workshops, and trainings, the Education arm provides comprehensive training in understanding the unique health and wellness needs of SGMs in the Southern US and Global South.

Research

We believe multi-disciplinary and community-engaged and driven research provides the path to building the knowledge base of SGM wellness and better understanding of the health and wellness inequities and needs of SGMs.

Practice

Our Practice arm strives to change the way we care for SGMs in the Southern US by offering more SGM-affirming care training to providers who can bring knowledge and care expertise to their clinical homes.

Policy

With the Duke Sanford School of Public Policy, our Policy arm is well situated to advocate for and influence policy change to better protect the rights and well-being of SGMs both locally and globally.

Our Mission:

The Duke SGM Wellness Program (DSGMWP) is an initiative to support sexual and gender minority wellness through four areas of excellence: education, research, practice, and policy.

Why Now?

Because the world demands it.

SGM health and wellness has been elevated to the status of urgently needing data, evidence, and best practices for educators and trainees, researchers, providers, and policymakers. The DSGMWP is committed to transforming education, research, best practices, and policy about SGM wellness both in the Southern US and the Global South.
