The Cell and Gene Modification Core provides state-of-the-art gene modification services to Duke Pinnell Center members to facilitate their skin-related research projects. A variety of cell and gene modification services are provided. Examples of the services include:

  • Provide consultation on the most suitable technology for gene modification.
  • Provide plasmid- or lentivirus- based reporter genes for members to label their cells for a variety of purposes.
  • Provide consultation on the use of CRISPR technology to modify/knockout target genes.
  • Provide plasmid construction service for genome editing (CRISPR-based) in immortalized cells.
  • In collaboration with the Duke Viral Vector Core, a School of Medicine supported service, to generate recombinant lentiviral vectors encoding CRISPR gene targeting components.


Vector construction:
Starting at $500 for basic insertions. Price includes designing, ordering, constructing, and sequencing verification of vectors. Additional charge may apply if large quantity plasmids (midi-prep or above) are needed for lentiviral preparation.

Lentiviral vector production:
To be done in collaboration with Duke Viral Vector Core.
