Where’s My Refund

To find out the status of your refund:

You will need to know your Social Security number, filing status (single, married, or head-of-household), and your exact refund amount (to the dollar, not the penny).

To find out the status of your federal refund you will need to know the social security number of the primary taxpayer, the filing status and the exact dollar amount (to the dollar, not the penny) of your anticipated refund.  To check the status online, click here.  If you do not have internet access, you can check the status of your refund in English or Spanish by calling the IRS Refund Hotline at 1-800-829-1954 or the IRS TeleTax System at 1-800-829-4477. Refund checks are normally sent out weekly on Fridays. If you check the status of your refund and are not given the date it will be issued, please wait until the next week before checking back.

To find out the status of your North Carolina State refund you will need to know the social security number of the primary taxpayer and the exact amount of your anticipated refund.  To check the status online, click here.  If you do not have internet access, you can check the status of your refund at 1-877-252-4052, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Refund checks are written weekly. If you contact our refund inquiry line and you are advised that your check has not been written, please wait 7 days before calling the refund inquiry line again.
