My name is Franco Amigo, and I am a PhD student in Population Health Sciences. I study how health systems and organizational structures influence the quality and coordination of care, especially for patients with chronic conditions. Coming from Chile and being a first-generation college student, I have experienced many of the challenges that come with navigating academic life abroad. Through Duke F1RSTS, I hope to support others in finding community, confidence, and belonging as they pursue their own academic paths.

My Name is Anshuman Sabath and I am a second year PhD Student in Biomedical Engineering working on computational neuroscience. As a first-gen international student from India, I realize there is a lot of nuances to the student life in USA. I believe that with the efforts of Duke F1RSTS, we can create a more equitable access to education for students from all walks of life. Hence, I am eager to be of help to other first-gen students.

My name is Jason Mohabir, and I am a PhD student in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. My research explores how mixed mating systems shape the genomic variation in human pathogenic fungi. I am a first-generation college student and second-generation American, born to immigrant parents from Guyana. Through Duke F1RSTS, I hope to help create spaces where others can share knowledge, grow community, and see their backgrounds as sources of strength in their scholarship.
