Adopt-a-Grandparent (AAG) is a student organization at Duke University chartered on August 20, 2000 by the Student Organization Finance Committee (SOFC) of Duke Student Government.

Mission Statement

The mission of AAG is to provide senior citizens with social and emotional support, to foster the formation of positive social relationships between senior citizens and Duke students, and to encourage understanding and appreciation of the senior citizens in our community, especially those who lack social support and financial resources.

We volunteer every Saturday at Durham Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (DNRC), formerly known as Grace’s Healthcare, which is located on 411 South LaSalle Street, Durham, NC 27705, and Croasdaile Village, which is located on 2600 Croasdaile Farm Pkwy, Durham, NC 27705. Students carpool or Uber to the DNRC and Croasdaile, and may choose to spend one-on-one time with residents and/or partake in group activities such as arts and crafts, baking, student performances, or a crowd-favorite, BINGO.

**COVID-19 changes**: We intend to volunteer in-person during the 2021-2022 school year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is subject to change and we may employ a partially virtual model.

Adopt-a-Grandparent has a faculty sponsor, Dr. Janet Bettger, who is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University.
