In a nutshell, what do you do at Duke University Libraries?
I am in charge of interlibrary borrowing. Any library materials that a Duke patron wants, that Duke does not have, I endeavor to get for them.
If you had to pick one thing, what’s the best part of your job so far?
I love when somebody submits a really tricky request. It can be for a lot of different reasons. Maybe the citation a patron has is incomplete, translated, or otherwise mysterious. Maybe only one library on earth has the book that somebody wants in their catalog. It’s a lot of fun to go on the hunt, and very satisfying when I am able to get my hands on the material for the patron.
What the best thing you’ve read/watched/listened to recently?
I go see a lot of movies at the Carolina Theater, especially in their Retro Film Series. Recently they showed Lawrence of Arabia, which I had purposefully never seen because I wanted to see it in the cinema. It was gorgeous and I was glad I held off on seeing it for years so that my first experience of it could be on the big screen.
What do you like most about living in The Triangle?
This probably sounds like I am being paid by the NC tourism board, but I love being so close to so much beautiful nature. There are plenty of trails and creeks and forests just minutes from me, and the mountains and oceans can both be a day trip if I want.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy reading, cooking, roller skating, going to the movies, hiking, and attending pro wrestling shows.
