In a nutshell, what do you do at Duke?
My role is to make sure our collection is what it needs to be and where it needs to be. I also play a systems analysis role in the library, track and analyze collection decision trends, and supervise our interns.
If you had to pick one thing, what’s the best part of your job so far?
The team I work with is wonderful. I love getting to work with people who are curious, truly kind, and want to help others, and I appreciate how they push me to think about librarianship and libraries in new ways.
What is the best thing you’ve read/watched/listened to recently?
I’ve recently been enjoying playing the video game The Case of the Golden Idol, a mystery puzzle story told in vignettes, set in the 18th century with an art style that reminds me of Victorian toy theatres. It’s the logic puzzle challenge of my childhood dreams.
What do you like most about living in The Triangle?
The warmth of the community here continues to amaze me. I also like the size of the area, that there is a strong creative community and art scene, but not so many events that it’s overwhelming or individuals are swept into the wash.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I am a writer, currently working on a novel about a wolf in suburbia and, in the process, watching lots of movies with swimming pools (think The Graduate), learning about the history of lawns, watching Tarkovsky movies, and reading weird books about the apparently extensive history of ingesting images. I’ve also recently started taking pottery classes and am learning how to wheel throw.
