Role at DUL: Library Systems Developer
Library/Department: Digital Strategies and Technology (DST) > Library Systems and Integration Support (LSIS)
Location: Bostock Library
Years at Duke: 3 years
In a nutshell, what do you do at Duke University Libraries?
A large part of my job involves working on Alma, Leganto, and Primo integrations. However, I also support other library systems, such as ArchivesSpace, and assist wherever else in the libraries that I can be of use.
If you had to pick one thing, what’s the best part of your job so far?
The best part of my job is getting to interact with colleagues across Duke University Libraries (DUL). It is a great way to learn about the many complexities and nuances of library work, and it has been a delight meeting everyone and learning from them.
What is the best thing you’ve read/watched/listened to recently?
Read:
- The NC Extension Gardener Handbook
- The Foxfire Book 1
Watched:
- UK procedural dramas such as Blue Lights, Shetland, and Ludwig, etc.
- The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City
Listened:
- I have recently been listening to Aretha Franklin’s version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” on repeat. Her piano playing is incredible, as is her interplay with the organist, either Billy Preston or Donny Hathaway, depending on the recording.
What do you like most about living in The Triangle?
I really appreciate the proximity to green spaces. I can bike, kayak, and forage while still being within a 15-minute drive of downtown Durham. I also am extremely privileged to live right on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST), where I can hike in either direction as far as I feel motivated to go.
What do you like to do outside of work?
play accordion in an Oktoberfest band, I play organ at a church in downtown Durham, and I compose experimental electronic music using custom-built software and synthesizers. I also find myself spending a great deal of time on forest management on my property, DIY home projects, keeping fit, dog training, and hiking. I am also working toward a Master of Science in Information Studies (MSIS) at UNC School of Information and Library Science (SILS).
