Title: Serials Management Associate
Library/Department: Electronic Resources and Serials Acquisitions (ERSA)
Location: Smith Warehouse
Years at Duke: Nearly 4 months!
In a nutshell, what do you do at Duke University Libraries?
I assist in the acquisitions work of the Serials Management Team. On any given day, this could mean saving and processing invoices for payment; communicating with vendors and subscription agents about things like renewals, cessations, format changes, and missing materials; or creating, updating, and closing order records in Alma as needed.
If you had to pick one thing, what’s the best part of your job so far?
It’s hard to pick just one – I really like both the variety and flexibility I’ve experienced so far in this role! While my day-to-day tasks are broadly similar, they’re never the exact same and I love that my work is so detail focused.
What is the best thing you’ve read/watched/listened to recently? Spring has sprung, and that means tuning in to Spring Baking Championship! I’ve admittedly fallen down a bit of a Food Network rabbit hole recently – I’m also enjoying Tournament of Champions, 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing, and Wildcard Kitchen.
What do you like most about living in The Triangle?
Perhaps unsurprising based on my previous answer – the food! There are so many amazing options no matter what you’re feeling, grocery stores included. Having grown up in a very rural part of central Wisconsin, the sheer diversity within such proximity never ceases to amaze me.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy reading (primarily nonfiction) and gaming (historically based real-time strategy on PC), as well as cooking and traveling with my husband. Now, with the weather getting warmer, I look forward to quiet evenings spent out on our deck!
