Association for Women in Mathematics at Duke

Founded in 2019, the Duke Student Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) is a community of Duke undergraduate and graduate students associated with the national AWM organization. As a national organization, the purpose of AWM is to create a community in which women and girls can thrive in their mathematical endeavors, and to promote equitable opportunity and treatment of women and others of marginalized genders and gender identities across the mathematical sciences. For our chapter, our goals are to create a supportive local network of math students and faculty, engage in community outreach, foster dialogue on diversity and inclusion in mathematics, and connect with the larger AWM and Duke communities.

Our leadership team for the 2023-2024 school year has a mix of nine graduate and undergraduate students working together to organize a robust schedule of events. Keep an eye out for monthly lunches, panels on careers in math and graduate school, social events, and more!
