In December, thirteen 2nd-years assisted Dr. Jody Feld, Dr. Marcus Roll, and 14 local clinician volunteers, with running the “Durham Stroke Camp,” which provided an intensive week of rehabilitation services for 7 stroke survivors from our local community that have had limited access to rehabilitation services.
Each day, the participants challenged their balance, improved their walking, and worked on their own personal goals. The week included a local services and recreation therapy presentation, games, a painting class, and an awards ceremony. Participants and students alike learned many new skills and experienced a great sense of community.
Congratulations to everyone involved as the week was successful in bringing together a team of healthcare professions students, clinicians, stroke-survivors, and their families with the goal of maximizing functional recovery and community re-integration!
