During the menopausal transition, 50-75% of women experience hot flashes, night sweats, or both. More than 50% have genitourinary symptoms. Hormonal and nonhormonal treatment options are reviewed, and recall that paroxetine and venlafaxine can be quite helpful for hot flashes and night sweats. It is emphasized that hormone therapy is not indicated to prevent coronary disease.
