Aphthous stomatitis or canker sores are the most common ulcerative condition of the oral cavity, occurring in 20% of the population, etiology is unknown. Can be treated with an application of a special topical steroid gel.
Lots of other issues to review such as geographic tongue and hairy tongue which are associated with tobacco and alcohol use, poor oral hygiene, low fiber diet, mouth breathing, and diminished salivation.
