Background

We established the Duke Primary Care Excellent Educator award in 2020.  This award is given monthly to a provider within Duke Primary Care who exemplifies the highest ideals of a clinician-educator.  The recipient must be currently employed in any of the Duke Primary Care sites.  The recipient is typically a nurse practitioner, a physician assistant, or a physician.  He or she must have had a recent experience with teaching learners from the health system.  We are looking to highlight and honor those individuals who are enthusiastic and gifted teachers.   Students, staff, and colleagues can nominate a provider within the network.

Each recipient will be honored by way of a detailed write-up of their teaching efforts.  This will be publicized in the monthly DPC newsletter.  Additionally, the recipient will receive a plaque, a reference text entitled Essential Skills for a Medical Teacher, and a loaf of Babka.

To allow for the broader involvement of as many teachers as possible,  recipients will have to wait 24 months before they become eligible to receive the award again.
