This week, hosted by Professor Seth Henderson, DKU film society will present the movie Titus (1999), an audacious adaptation of Titus Andronicus directed by Julie Taymor. As well-known for bringing the stunning visuals of puppetry to the Broadway adaptation of The Lion King, Taymor this time blended ancient Rome with modern imagery. The film erupts into a brutal spectacle of revenge, ritual, and political collapse. Stylized, operatic, and unapologetically excessive, it transforms violence into visual language and tragedy into myth. A haunting meditation on power, vengeance, and the cost of spectacle, Titus dares us to confront brutality not as history, but as a recurring condition of human civilization.
