About

In the 1970s, Hubei’s Wangying Reservoir was part of China’s large-scale water conservancy campaign. Artist Dingyi’s grandfather, a laborer there, left a 2006 handwritten memoir recording rural life and history. In 2024, Dingyi retraced his path via filming and research, exploring memory preservation amid social-environmental changes. Her project, blending documentary and immersive exhibition, connects family narrative with grand history, highlighting overlooked individual experiences behind grand constructions. The exhibition includes dual-channel video, a recreated rural living room, and two artist books for intimate memory portrayal.
