First Cohort of Dance and Choreography at DKU | Oct 9

Instructor: Ziying Cui
HUM Space (AB1075A)

(Q&A session to follow the showing)

Experience a rare opportunity to witness DKU students’ First cohort of Dance and Choreography—short, bold, and experimental works that explore how movement can speak without words. Over the semester, each student has created a unique dance section, developing gestures and phrases into structured performance units. In this final showing, students will perform their own choreographies with music they selected, and also engage with music chosen by their peers—embracing Merce Cunningham’s principle that music and dance do not need to “match.”

This performance highlights the creativity and adaptability of a diverse group of students, many new to dance, as they explore movement, expression, and collaboration in real time. The showing is open to the DKU community, offering both a chance to support emerging choreographers and to experience innovative, experimental dance.

Don’t miss this unique chance to see dance in its raw, expressive, and daring form, and join us for a post-performance Q&A to engage with the students and learn about their creative process!
