September 2nd | Film Society | Dune Double Feature

A desert world. A prophecy. And the price of becoming a messiah.

This Wednesday, hosted by Professor Ben Van Overmeire, DKU Film Society invites you to a back-to-back screening of Dune: Part One (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024), Denis Villeneuve’s monumental adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science-fiction epic. Set across a vast interstellar empire where noble houses struggle for power and control over the precious spice of Arrakis, the films follow Paul Atreides as he is drawn into a conflict far larger than himself. As Paul navigates betrayal, survival, and his own prophetic visions, he must grapple with the burden of destiny and the thin line between liberator and conqueror. The screening will be followed by an in-depth discussion exploring the films’ political allegories, philosophical questions of free will and messianic myth, and the masterful cinematography of the Herbert’s universe.
