It originates from Liji 禮記 [The Book of Rites] and is often circulated as the idiom hunding chenxing 昏定晨省 or chenhun dingxing 晨昏定省, while scholar Lu Deming 陸德明 (550?-630) from the Tang dynasty explained it as greet and serve one’s parents at dusk (hun 昏) and dawn (chen 晨) as an important part of filial piety.
