Séréna Tibrewala – Co-President and Co-Founder
Séréna is a second-year student in the JD/LLM program at Duke Law. Though she is originally from Paris, her home is now in Malta. Séréna graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in May 2018. She is passionate about sexual assault issues and is involved with DCRC and JusticeMatters. Séréna is so excited that Duke now has a European Law Society and she looks forward to all the European themed events. Outside of school, Séréna loves to dance and bake.
Séréna spent her 1L summer with Van Bael & Bellis in Brussels, Belgium and is excited about her 2L summer in the New York office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
Ziang Zhou – Co-President and Co-Founder
Ziang is a second-year student at Duke Law pursuing a JD and LLM in International and Comparative Law. Ziang was born in Beijing, China and then grew up in Geneva, Switzerland. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in May 2018. During his undergraduate studies, he spent a semester abroad at Sciences Po Paris, which he enjoyed immensely. Ziang is interested in European law from a comparative perspective and is very excited to launch the Duke European Law Society with Séréna! In his free time, Ziang loves to cook, explore cities on foot, and ski.
Ziang spent his 1L summer with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Munich, Germany and is excited about his 2L summer in the New York office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
Meredith Thompson – Vice-President
Meredith is a second-year student in the JD/LLMLE program. She grew up in Barrington, Rhode Island. Meredith graduated from Cornell University in May 2018 and then traded in the cold weather of upstate New York for the warm southern weather of North Carolina. She enjoys singing a cappella and eating way more Thai food than one person should. During her time at Cornell, she studied abroad in London and completely fell in love with the city.
Meredith spent her 1L summer with Howell Legal in Providence, Rhode Island and is excited about her 2L summer in the Boston office of Cooley.
Robin Liu – 1L Representative
Robin is a first-year law student in the JD/LLM program at Duke Law. Robin was born in Portland, OR but also spent time in Germany. She graduated from the University of Southern California with degree in International Relations Global Business. Robin left sunny Los Angeles for Berlin, where she was a Fulbright Scholar studying the effects of norms on free trade agreements. Before coming to Duke, Robin was working as a junior analyst at NATO. She hopes to continue working on American-European relations and is very interested in the changing dynamics between the U.S. and EU. When she’s not doing her law school work, you can find Robin hiking in the woods or trying to improve her Russian.
Felix Karpp – LLM Representative
Felix is an LLM Candidate ’20 at Duke Law. He graduated from Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg (Germany) with the First Exam in Law in June 2019. Back in Germany, he was a member of the European Law Students’ Association. During his studies, he experienced the influence of EU law in all areas of national law. Felix is interested in working for an EU institution one day. In his free time, he plays tennis and works out at the gym.
Before coming to the US, Felix worked with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in their Frankfurt office.
Hugo G. Kerbib – LLM Representative
Hugo is a student pursuing the LL.M / Certificate in Business Law program at Duke Law. Hugo is a Frenchman from Paris, France. He obtained his Licence (Bachelor degree) in Law and Political Science at the Catholic University of Paris in 2016 and his Master’s degree in Business Law (Master 214 in Business Law) at Paris Dauphine University | PSL in 2018. Hugo also obtained the Paris Bar exam in the same year. Specialized in French and European corporate law, Hugo is very excited to be part of the promising Duke European Law Society to share legal and political knowledge of the Old Continent with his fellow American classmates. Hugo serves as a reserve officer in the Marine Nationale (French Navy). Beside academics Hugo practices fencing and equestrian and enjoys classical concerts, ballets and proper (French) wine.
Hugo has interned at the Paris office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in its Corporate department and recently completed a long-term internship at the Paris office of Willkie, Farr & Gallagher in its Corporate and Financial Services department.
Sajika is a LL.M. student pursuing a Certificate in Business Law at Duke Law. She was born in Switzerland where she graduated with a Bachelor and Master of Law at the University of Geneva. She also holds a Certificate of Advances Studies (CAS) in Accountings & Taxation from the Geneva School of Economics and Management.
Back in Switzerland, she interned within the Tax department of a mid-size law firm and is now excited to explore American Tax Law. During her free time, she enjoys sharp shooting.
