DukeCapture Spring Upgrade to 4.6

By: Todd Stabley

Hopefully most of you will be celebrating Cinco De Mayo on Monday, May 5, but since that is just after Spring semester exams end and usage of DukeCapture is low that week, OIT has planned  this date for our annual spring DukeCapture upgrade. We will be updating to Panopto version 4.6.

A full list of the new features in version 4.6 can be found here:, but the short list includes:

  • Enhancements to the Interactive Video Player, including economizing of space, easier access to search, and better aesthetics. Read this point by point list of the changes or watch this recording to see them in action.
  • Enhancements to the embedded video player, including autoplay, autobuffering, branding, an optional link to launch the interactive video player, and an automatic HTML5 fallback for a larger range of browsers.
  • An alerts system that can publish alerts to either all admin users or all site users
  • New look and feel for the portal page when the user is logged in to help guide them into the site
  • Site admins can now specify a phone number and an email address so their users can contact their local support teams
  • Added keyboard shortcuts for controlling playback of the session
    • Spacebar: play/pause
    • Left/Right arrows: skip back and forward
    • Up/Down arrows: Volume up/down
    • ‘m’ key: mute/unmute
  • More site and player branding options
  • New administrative tools, including:
    • Custom SQL queries we’ll use to track HD and other usage
